Specialty yarns can be tricky when used to make amigurumi. I recommend having an intermediate skill level in crochet when using Go For Fleece Sherpa and Go For Faux Fur because the stitches can be hard to see. The trick is to feel for your stitches when using Go For Fleece/Faux Fur, and ALWAYS count your stitches. It’s easy to miss a stitch when working with this yarn.
This fleecy yarn has a 5-star review on the Lion Brand Yarn website. Reviewers raved about how soft and well-made it is, but is this jumbo yarn by Lion Brand worth it?
My review will be based on my experience using Go For Faux Sherpa by Lion Brand while designing and crocheting my fleecy snowman.

What is Go For Fleece Yarn?
Go For Fleece is a size 7 jumbo yarn made from 100% polyester. Its texture sets it about from other yarns which makes it great for winter apparel, or fluffy amigurumi!
Color:
Lion Brand stuck with its theme of limited variation in color. There are 14 colorways to choose from in dusty pastel tones. I’d almost call the colors muted, except for a few. The colors are all solids. I’m more of a fan of the neutral tones in this yarn palette than the colors and pastels, which is unusual for me. I’m a bigger fan of color, but I think the neutral tones suit the texture and look of the yarn more. I believe this is because the aesthetic of this particular yarn resembles sheep’s wool.
Feel:
If you don’t like the feeling of cotton balls, then you won’t like the feeling of this yarn. Yes, this sherpa yarn is soft and fluffy, but it also feels slightly rough. I’m not entirely sure how to explain it. It feels grippy, which can be a good thing. I used an acrylic hook while crocheting my snowman, and I was sometimes annoyed by how much it hung on. This characteristic is perfect for beginners. Although I’m not the biggest fan of the feeling Go For Faux Sherpa leaves on my fingers, the texture looks phenomenal and is the main reason I’ll continue to use it for other projects in the future. If you have dry hands, make sure to lotion up before using!
Ease Of Use:
I found this sherpa yarn hard to work with for amigurumi. I’m no crochet expert, but I think I’m at a slightly higher skill level than intermediate after crocheting nonstop for over 7 years. I struggled because it’s difficult to see your stitches. You have to feel for them. I wouldn’t have made it through this crochet design without one of my stitch markers to keep my place. I will admit that it’s easier once you use a bigger gauge hook. I was doing a lot of frogging at the beginning, and this yarn does not frog very well. I got fluff everywhere.
Skill Level:
Honestly, I wouldn’t go into a project with Go For Sherpa as a beginner. I imagine garments that require larger gauge hooks and stitches might be better to crochet, but if you want to make any amigurumi with Go For Fleece Sherpa, I would recommend getting some practice under your belt first. That’s not to say you aren’t allowed to try. The only way you’ll learn is if you keep pushing yourself to get better.
Go For Fleece Sherpa yarn has an OK color range, is machine washable, and has a lovely texture, but it can be hard to work with because the stitches can be hard to see. Overall, I would say it’s deserving of the hype it receives. I’m going to review it as a 4 out of 5 stars. Get it on the Lion Brand Yarn website!
